In addition to their dissolved air flotation systems and plate pack settlers, Nijhuis manufactures a complete line of open style clarifiers. Particles are separated from water by their respective differences in specific gravity. The floating layer is removed by an operating scrapper mechanism while settled solids are removed by automatically actuated drain valves.
The rising or settling velocity of a particle is determined by its specific characteristics and the nature of the liquid. Stoke’s Law describes this relation and allows us to calculate the rising or settling velocity. Nijhuis above ground clarifiers are suitable as an alternative to underground concrete separators and have the advantage that no soil contamination can occur.
